Momma gave her to me

when I turned nine

She was a beauty

in her flowin gown

and dangly earrings

her hair was like the waterfall

in momma and daddy's honeymoon picture

before daddy disappeared and momma passed away

She was my favorite Barbie doll of all

for sure

Then the hurricane came

and blew away my bedroom in my grandma's house

and buried my neighbors in a sea of mud

After all that natural wind and rain

she was still in one piece

but the hurricane ruined her party gown

like the world

when those buildings in New York

came down
